At least 5 killed, 16 wounded by sniper perched a top a business at July 4th parade in Illinois
America's disturbing trend of mass killings continues with a suspect described as a white male 22 years of age, within the 17-23 male age range the WVPI recently identified as a common link amongst some of the nation's deadliest mass shootings.
At least five people gathered along an Independence Day parade route were shot dead and 16 others were wounded by a gunman perched on the roof of a business called "Uncle Dan's in Highland Park, Illinois. The perpetrator is currently at large.
Highland Park is an affluent suburb of Chicago, located approximately 25 miles north of the "Windy City."
Some parade-goers thought the loud sounds were July 4th fireworks before realizing that they were hearing gunshots. The incident occurred 10 minutes after the parade started.
Highland Park police and law enforcement from several other jurisdictions, including the Illinois State Police, were seen patrolling the parade area attempting to locate the shooter.
Please read this prior WVPI blog where we identified the trend of males aged 17-23 as a risk factor associated with numerous episodes of mass violence:
UPDATE: A person of interest has been named by law enforcement. He is an aspiring "rapper" from an established family in Highland Park. The following is a screen shot from a video of his posted eight months ago. Proving once again these killers don't snap. They leak violent intent beforehand.
