Mass shooting at Austin restaurant

America is waking up to news of yet another mass shooting at a business, this time in Austin, Texas.

The Austin Police Department (APD) has reported a mass shooting inside the Chupacabra Cantina restaurant overnight. The establishment is located in downtown Austin and was reportedly filled with patrons and staff at the time of the mass shooting.

At least 13 people were shot inside the Chupacabra Cantina, with two victims listed in critical condition according to APD.

The area around Chupacabra Cantina is a pedestrian-only street comprised of restaurants and bars, in efforts to invite patrons to return to downtown and enjoy themselves following the devastation many small businesses experienced resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was was crowded with people at the time of the shooting. The frightening sounds of gunfire caused many pedestrians outside to run for their lives, not clearly knowing where the shots were being fired from. The situation was worse inside the small business as matters deteriorated to sheer chaos and utter fear.

APD reports that the gunman is at large and describe him as a black male with a skinny build. The motive for the mass shooting is unknown. The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is assisting APD in the investigation.

APD has published a release seeking the public's assistance in apprehending the person responsible: https://mailchi.mp/austintexas.gov/apd-seeking-information-in-downtown-austin-shooting
