Authorities say UPS worker threatened a mass shooting

Law enforcement officials have arrested a worker after they say he sent threatening text messages. Officials arrested Thomas Andrews, 32, claiming he was planning a mass shooting at the UPS facility in the city of Sunnyvale, near San Jose.

“He alluded to a mass shooting in his text messages,” said Sunnyvale police Capt. Dan Pistor. “I definitely think we avoided a tragedy.”

Following his arrest, authorities searched Andrews' apartment and found thousands of rounds of ammunition, high capacity magazines, five tactical rifles, a shotgun, three handguns, body armor and tactical backpacks with ammunition.

Authorities also state the backpacks were "staged" by Andrews' front door.

Andrews was booked for investigation of making criminal threats amongst other charges. He is being held on $500,000 bail at the Santa Clara County Jail.
