Michigan enacts law Criminalizing Cyberbullying

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has signed Public Act 457 of 2018 into law making cyberbullying a misdemeanor and punishable by 93 days in jail and a $500 fine. Under this law a "pattern of repeated harassment" is a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Cyberbullying resulting in the victim's self-murder is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The new Michigan law goes into effect in March.

Anti-bullying advocate Angela Suttner (r) above, mother of Kenny Suttner, who died of bullycide on December 21, 2016 has devoted herself to ensuring SB-791 aka "Kenny's Law" is enacted in Missouri. Kenny's Law seeks to criminalize various forms of bullying, including cyberbullying, that causes a victim to take his or her own life.
