Workplace violence incident in Thailand at a child care center leaves more than 35 people dead

Authorities in Thailand report that at least 24 children and 11 adults have been murdered by a gun and knife toting ex-police officer who had been terminated from his job attacked a day care center. The tragedy resulted in the worst mass shooting carried out by a lone assailant in that country's history.

Authorities report that on October 6, 2022 the suspect, a 34 year old man, had appeared in court just hours before heading to the day care center to pick up his child. The shooter "went to look for his two-year-old son, but the boy was not there … so he started shooting as well as stabbing people at the nursery,” said police spokesperson Maj. General Paisan Luesomboon.

After fleeing the scene, he went home and killed his wife and 4 year old son before committing suicide.

The above photograph, taken at the scene of the massacre, was released by the Royal Thai Police. It depicts National Police Chief Damrongsak Kittiprapat speaking with a police operation team in the northern Thai province of Nong Bua Lam Phu,

This devastating massacre reminds us that workplace violence can rear its ugly head anywhere and at any time and moreover that it is a global problem.
