Mass shooting at Southern University Fraternity House

Authorities in Baton Rouge are investigating a mass shooting that occurred today, October 21, 2022, at the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity house located across the street from and close to Southern University's campus entrance and A&M College. Nine people were injured as a result of the incident.





The shootings occurred during the time when the university was celebrating homecoming events.


This mass shooting continues to drive home the point that violence can erupt at any time and anywhere, including at or near our nation's colleges, universities, and other institutions of learning.



UPDATE:


Since the time of the original publication of this blog, law enforcement has announced that eleven people not nine were shot at the fraternity house and that a homecoming celebration was underway at the time of the mass shooting. Two people have now been arrested associated with this incident. No motive has been related by the authorities.
