The People of the State of Florida vs. Nikolas Cruz
When a state such as Florida brings a criminal action against a defendant, it is conducted on behalf of the citizens of that state.
Suspected mass shooter Nikolas J. Cruz
Currently, the state of Florida has charged Nikolas J. Cruz, 19, with 17 counts of first degree premeditated murder in violation of Florida Statute Section 782.04(1) . Cruz is also charged with 17 counts of first degree attempted murder. Cruz is the suspect in the February 14, 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
This tragic event involves workplace violence as three faculty members were murdered along with 14 students.
The docket involving proceedings the state is bringing against Cruz as well as filings are available to the public. Among other recent filings, the state has filed a motion to compel Cruz's mental health records.
