Parents advised they have a "duty" to monitor a child's social media activity as 10 ju

Authorities in Virginia Beach announced at a press conference Friday they have charged 10 juveniles with various misdemeanors involving threats to public schools. Twenty-one incidents were investigated by Virginia Beach officials and the 10 arrests occurred in the wake of last week's massacre at Douglas High in Florida.

Reports indicate the 19-year-old who has been charged with multiple counts of first degree murder left a trail of social media postings prior to the February 14, 2018 mass shooting in Parkland which left 17 dead including three staff members.

Virginia Beach Police Chief James Cervera announced at yesterday's news conference that one of the 10 children charged has been accused of making what has been described as a terroristic threat.

Parents were advised to keep an eye on their children's social media activity during the press conference.

“Your kids do not have a right to privacy from you," stated Virginia Beach's Commonwealth Attorney Colin Stolle.

You have every right, and I would suggest that you have a duty, to know exactly what your kids are doing. You have a duty to know what they’re doing on their phones, on their tablets, on all of their electronic devices..." he said.
