FL attorneys may earn 2.5 CLE credits at the 5/10/18 WVPI Symposium

WVPI President and Founder Kathleen M. Bonczyk, Esq. will present a legal overview of "Workplace Violence" at the May 10, 2018 Symposium in Orlando. Ms. Bonczyk's course has been approved for 2.5 continuing legal education (CLE) units in General Education and Labor and Employment (Intermediate Level) by the Florida Bar and offers an analysis of legal, human resources and safety-related issues associated with the growing epidemic of workplace violence.

An outline of topics Ms. Bonczyk will address are:

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) of 1970 which requires employers to provide employees with a safe workplace, how OSHA defines workplace violence, OSHA statistics on workplace violence, worker safety and Chapter 760 Florida Statutes, Florida's Workers Compensation law, Florida Statute Section 790.251 the Protection of the right to keep and bear arms in motor vehicles parked in employee-owned parking lots and parking garages (protecting visitors, invitees and employees), behavioral-based interviewing techniques which may assist in reducing the potential for workplace violence while also complying with Florida Statute Section 760.01, et seq, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Pub.L. 88-351), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1976 (Pub. . 90-202), the Americas with Disabilities Act of 1990(42 U.S.C. Section 12101, et seq.) The ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (Public Law 11-325, ADAAA) ad The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (Pub.L. 110-233, 12 Stat. 881). The laws barring harassment (which is defined by OSHA as a form of workplace violence) will also be addressed.
